the Blatchford Family Diaries: Moms, moms, and more moms

I've been going to a mom and babies group since March so that Tallan could meet new babies and I could meet new moms! It has been great fun. A group of us decided we would go for regular walks on Wednesdays while the weather is nice. It has been nice to get out and to see everyone on a regular basis. For the mommies group, we meet in a room at a local church. It's run by Public Health so there is always at least one nurse there to answer questions. They give out information on development, nutrition, feeding tips, and sometimes freebies - we got free toothbrushes and sunglasses for our babies.

They also bring a baby weigh scale so we can see where our babies are at. Tallan has been around 19 lbs for the last 2 or 3 months! Talk about a plateau. He was 9 lbs, 4 oz at birth and gained 1 - 2 lbs a month until about 5 months when he's held strong at around 19 -- when I weighed him last month, he was 19 lbs, 8 oz.

These three boys have known each other from our first visit when they were all just under 3 months old. What a difference between 3 months and 7 months!

Since most of the nurses are on holidays over the summer, the mom's group has been cancelled for the summer. Since the group is really for new babies under 9 months of age, we won't be returning when it continues this fall, but some of the moms are still planning on meeting on a regular basis. We went for gelato on Monday at Cumpari's in lieu of the first missed mommies group. Yum, yum!

Now to introduce some of our friends!

This is Angie and Aili (Aili is half Japanese) Aili is Tallan's first girlfriend. They kissed in July and have been hanging out regularly since :) Angie has been a super friend and a great source of knowledge for a variety of things! We met when I bought something from her off craigslist. She was so easy to talk to and we started getting together! We also decided to brave our first mom and baby group together. It was a great success as we met a number of great people there.

Here Tallan and Aili are having a kiddie pool party in Angie's backyard (last week). We had such a blast. Angie and I had lunch with the babies on her patio and then the nudies took a dip in this adorable pool to cool off. Tallan got a chance to have a ride in her backyard swing - it hung from a tree!! It was such a great afternoon. Great weather and great company!

This is Miranda and Kailynn (Miranda used to live down the hall from us - only she didn't have a baby then...now she lives in a big house with a heat pump for this heat wave!)

This is Laura and Logan (Logan is half Korean) - you saw him before in the three musketeers picture. Logan is only 4 days older than Tallan.

This is Jackie and Sophie (Tallan's other girlfriend) - they regularly hold hands.

This is Holly and Trinity. Trinity has beautiful grey/blue eyes. It's really striking to look at them. We are planning to go to her birthday party in September - she'll be a year old already!!
